I got a copy of AoC to see how well the game is and trying to be neutral about this which i cant do 100% here is my take

I run a 2.6 dual core amd
2 gigs or ram which is probably a tad low
300 gig HD
8800gt video card

I play wow at max settings with no problem in framerates and the game looks great. (course the game is older but for what blizzard does to detail the whole toony look works very well)

Now after spending the 2hours installing AoC the game for some reason didnt make an icon on my desktop which wasnt a big deal.
I had no problems loading in areas but while running the game seems to just show blurry ground and then a second later it loads the textures which i thought was due to the fact that my pc wasnt good enough so i lowered everything and got the same responce so it honestly didnt matter what my settings were on i always got 40-50 frames per sec. I hope that theres a patch to fix the texture loading as you run or walk cause no one wants to battle on blurry ground as the game loads while you play.

When i put the game on max settings not touching the antialiasing and such bt the distances etc the game played with the same issues as before but after an hour my pc would shut down... and it happened twices on 2 seperate days playing on max settings which was rather weird since i dont see any framerate slow down just goes poof IDK if anyone else has this problem. it cant be dust cause there isnt any inside the case and to Graphics card is a week old and on top of that it hasnt done it to any other game i play.

with that aside as far as combat is concerned the real time feel is pretty cool but i dont understand how threat works in the game cause playing necromancer you would think that your adds will be the meat shield while you cast spells but i feel as if i end up tanking the mobs with the adds dpsing which is weird when you have to do the night quests and end up dieing and having to rekill mobs one at a time. It might be due to me needing to lvl but based on what i hear from most game mags most of lvl 1-20 takes place offline and no one said anything about grinding out lvls to complete those quests. But my concern is that the combat system might not be as amazing for PvP as it is for PvE and it seems like kiting will be an issue and ranged classes might have a unfair advantage and also as a real time combat system lag might play too heavy into the matchs where with the wow system is seems prety smooth.

The collision detection is a good idea and having weapons swing hitting other mobs at you fight but why cant i run through bush when moving around areas ad i mean a small bush. Also when stuck your character seems to just not respond unless you move the right way so it almost looks like your lagging when you arent.

I honestly think the game needs to be patched more before it will become a game i would enjoy but for me to day whether AoC vs. WoW? which is better you honestly cant for the simple reason that any hardcore WoW player will be playing wow and not want to play AoC and any hard core AoC player will not play WoW and on top of that both will say that the enemy MMO sucks for their own reasons.

Will AoC see success? I guess if they fix the skipping problem and maybe have textures loaded before you actually move around. I wish they didnt use too much in the graphics dept because they are automatically cutting the availability for the WoW player who wants to play AoC to not strictly due to performance issues. (Remember Gameboy did dominate the market not because of its graphics but because of its gameplay)

I dont see AoC shifitng the MMO masses to it and dethroning WoW i think WoW will end up dethroning itself at one point. but AoC seems sorta rushed and as i said before after any major patching hopefully those problems will fix itself and i might actually enjoy playing both MMOs (till Wotlk comes out LOL) =P

one more thing I dont believe IGN when it says it cant give a full review of the game till it splayed through it seems that there was no problem reviewing WoW or its expansions quickly... I would have loved to see them critique the game as an ability to actually play and enjoy the game becuase content is always added to the good MMOs
