Hey everyone,
I have a guildie that insists that Warlocks are OP and that there is no way that a mage should be out dps'd by a warlock. According to him, the cloth DPS order should be Mages, Warlocks, Shadow Priests. Mages should be on top, Warlocks are a pet utility class and never should pass an equally geared Mage on DPS.
I took a defensive stance and argued back that the order shouldn't always be that way. while it is true a Mage does incredible DPS, that they are designed to be a high impact burst damage class where Warlocks are more high damage over a longer period of time class. Meaning that a Mage should totally out dps a Warlock on trash mobs, while a Warlock should rock boss fights because they're longer in duration.
I guess the problem is he often sees Warlocks pass him even on trash. My theory on this is that Mages often get called up on to Sheep trash mobs, I believe a Mage gets assigned to CC far more than warlocks. This of course would put a large dent in Mage DPS having to sheep all the time, especially if their mob gets broken repeatedly. He is a great Mage, and I don't believe it is a question of his skill.
My questions to you all are, are Mages supposed to be the top DPS? Are they currently? If not, why? And should something be done about it?
