View Full Version : Mage Invisibility, and why it needs a fix

So when the burning crusade launched I was excited about the mages getting a new spell, invisibility. Finally a great way to reduce threat, and it will have some uses in PVP. When I finally got the spell, and used it in a raid/dungeon setting I was sorely dissapointed.

So when you cast invisibility, you actually start fading to invisibility over the next 5 seconds, which will reduce aggro over the 5 seconds. And the only think you can do over the next 5 seconds is just stand there or run in circles. IMHO that is pretty useless. You cant DPS, you just have to stand there. Correction, you can run around in a circle. Yay. Cant even drink or eat.

If you actually happen to pull agrro on a boss, and you pop invisibility, it will rarely save you. Why? Because any damage recieved will instantly stop the fade into invisibility and your aggro will be stuck in the same place. That is pretty useless in my opinion, and I am sure many mages agree with me. You pull aggro, cast invisibility, you get hit once, and then you gotta blink/run/frost nova.

In BC warlocks got soul shatter. Its an instant cast threat reducing ability. Its actually usefull. Ours isnt. I know its very stereotypical for mages to complain about warlocks, but WTF soulshatter is much better than invisibility. Considering that mages are more burst dps, therefore they get threat spikes, while locks are more steady dps that builds up, why the hell did they get the better threat reducing spell??

But anyway, I dont want to turn this into a warlock qq thread, so I would like instead propose some ways to fix the mages invisibility.

1. Make it so that getting hit will not cancel our fade to invisibility, but casting aggresive spells will still cancel it. So no Invisibility+POM+Arcane Power+trinket+pyro pew pew pew. But Invisibility+blink yes, which brings me to my next point

2. Allow us to use blink. The whole purpose of invisibility IMHO was to help mages reduce aggro/not die. Blink is primarly used for GTFO from bad situations. Whether its blink away, or blink towards a snared tank, blink is usually a skill thats used to save your skin.

3. Another way to fix it is to make it similair to the imps phase shift ability. We cannot be attacked, and cannot attack while invisibility is fading.

4. Make it insta cast invisibility that uses a reagent. Maybe arcane dust, or figurine of invisibility or something.

So anyway these are my ideas on how to make the spell more viable in dungeon/raid situations. Please post constructive criticism.
