One thing I missed about vanilla WoW, was the central zone called Blackrock Mountain. Not only was it a really imposing, cool looking structure to the game, it had everything you could want in it also. It had two huge 5 man instances, a ten man instance, two raids, and that usually meant all the world pvp you could ask for.
You could see the top guilds getting ready to do BWL while you could see starter guilds finishing dungeon 2 set gear. That itself made it an amazing place to be. There was also a ton of lore packed into one mountain. You could see Vael in instances and then again in raids (also for Nefarian). This was the place where your friends could come together every night and see guilds progress.
The visuals of the mountain were amazing. From the outside it looked evil and you knew inside there would be much to conquer. Once inside you could see the awesome dwarven architecture, dragons flying above, lava flowing below, and a huge rock dangling from huge chains.
While I don't think the dungeons in Burning Crusade are bad by any means, they don't hold the same weight on me as the ones in Blackrock Mountain did. (this might be a first time end gaming experience thing) The fact that you had to fight your way into the instances, then fight in the rich in lore instances, made the game that much more enjoyable. Now TBC instances have good lore, but they are all spread out, which makes sense for the layout of Outland, but with WotLK coming out (next year when?), I feel they can re-create, nay create a new central area that everyone is reminded of lvling all the way till you conquer the whole thing. (another cool thing was seeing the huge Blackrock Mountain lvling, but not being able to touch it for everything was too powerful, really built up the tension in the area)
Making Icecrown like Blackrock Mountain would be so very cool in my eyes, I would feel it would do the great Lich King justice. Making it have multiple instances, raids, and forcing everyone to build up their characters there would create an amazing situation.
What do you guys think, was Blackrock Mountain that great or did you just want the epics then on to the next raid?
