I was scanning the AH like I usually do before I log for the day and I saw a epic staff with a very low starting bid and a 1000G B/O. The staff was in no way worth 1000G, o I naturally placed a bid not expecting to win at all, but what the heck.

The next morning I checked my mail and saw that I won the item, and then about 2 hours latter I get a /w from the seller (a level 1 mule) asking me to send it back to them cause they made a mistake and didn't put a high enough starting bid. My gold would be refunded.

I didn't reply right away pondering what to say (I really had no intention of returning it), then the guy starts going off on me in /w, cussing, calling me an AH ninja (never heard that one before), saying he was going to tell my GM, report me etc.

I just laughed about it, put him on my ignore list and told my guildies and they pretty much agreed with my decision to not return it. Especially after his little tantrum.

I havnt heard from the guy since.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Should I have handled this differently?

Offer to sell it back to him at the Buy Out price he originally advertised.

AH Ninja, cool.

If someone wants to report you to your GM, and you didn't do anything, tell them to go ahead. If your GM gets mad at you for doing something legal, you need a new guild anyway.

What is even better, is when someone threatens to tell your GM about something stupid and you're one of the guild founders or the GM yourself(IE they didn't check.)

Now, if you wanted to, I see nothing wrong with being nice and giving an item back. But I also see nothing wrong with keeping it, well, until he went off on you, then I'd say keep it for sure.

I would have done the same thing. . you put a bid on it, and you won. . that is how the AH is supposed to work (unless I am mistaken). When I see items that are 1g bid and 15g b/o you bet I'll bid on it frist. . if I get it yay. . if not oh well. . . maybe next time. But you bid on it and won it so you did good by not giving it back.
