I'm curious what people think about this voice chat feature in general, and if you plan on using it for your guild, raids, pugs, bg's, or whatever else you're doing.

I for one, am pretty happy with a vent server that I can ban idiots from. I pretty much never plan on using VoiP ever, especially in pugs. I'll admit that there have been instance groups / battlegrounds where this feature would have been nice, but it's definitely been a small percentage of them. The idea of listening to a normal battleground raid instead of reading the text kind of nauseates me. Just imagine your typical AB game in speech rather than text (or instance or whatever)

guy1: BS!
randomguy2: Blacksmith is fine you @#$%ing nub, come to stables.
guy1: Why the hell would you attack stables you idiot?
Someothergirl: Get on the flag you asses, we're losing blacksmith.
3-4peopleatonce: omfg, are you a real girl? pix
guy1: I told you so douchebag.
someothergirl: Shut up you idiots, get on the flag.
someothergirl: Blacksmith lost.
randomguy2: have fun wiping on attuneman again this week you scrubs
3-4peopleatonce: stfu, get the girl to talk again #$@% blah blah, i can't even understand this cause they all talk at once talking about chuck norris
guy1: My main is in 3/5 T5 and could beat up your dad!

.... I think I'll pass

My friends and I have used the new voice/chat system on the test server, and we think that if people don't abuse it, it will be a nice tool. We found it very effective. . . plus you don't have to pay a fee ON TOP OF your wow account to use it. . . pluse I can't get vent to work on my computer for some reason. . everyone can hear me but I can't hear them. . . pissed me off when I got it. . this works great on my comp though. . . (and no my comp isn't a POS, just bought it last year)

While it may have merit in 5-man PuGs, I really have no intension of using VoIP for an serious reasons. Ventrilo offers better sound quality and allows for sound normalization which tends to be extremely important. Incorporating VoIP from the start would have been one thing... putting it in two years later... well, it sounds like a waste of time that programmers could be using towards working out bigger issues in the game.

very few wow users actually have a mic setup to talk. however, i will absolutely use it. i think it will be great on heroic and pug instance runs because i am sick of having a billion different vent and teamspeak selections when i run with other guilds. mind you the raid leaders will have the option of setting a private channel and muting disrespectful players.

Don't worry voip in wow is just eye candy and few people will use it.

Lord of the Rings had it build in from the get go and was rarely used. Good raid guilds will still use vent for control.
