I have made gold by selling pets.
If you know where to get them, this is an easy way to make 4-6g per day.
First, you can get three kinds of cats from Stormwind. Just outside the gates, head left and go to the house after the Defias camp. Cat carriers from the "crazy cat lady" are only 36-40s each. Buy one of each.
Then, head to Darnassus and buy owls at the front gate. Just outside the main area there is a large tree and three merchants by benches. Go to the woman and buy one each of the owls.
IronForge has the rabbits. Find them after leaving IF turn left. Walk down the road to the farm where you get mounts. There is a little girl running around chasing a rabbit and if you can catch her, she will sell you rabbits for 36-40s. Buy one or two and head to the AH.
I have found that neutral AH sell owls really fast. I can sell them for 2g easily. Cats also sell for a little more in Gadetzan and Booty Bay. If in Booty Bay, buy parrots and sell them for 1g in the AH for Alliance.
I don't know how well this works for Horde but I do know that I can make quite a bit by doing this. If someone has a pet listed like your own for 1g just price yours at 99s or 88s, you still make plenty back. (double)
