While these mobs aren't normally a quest objective, Spore Bats (neutral creatures) give a very nice buff when killed.
When you kill a Spore Bat creature in melee (neutral ones, not the aggressive ones), they give you a nice buff called "Energizing Spores" which raises all your attributes by 30 for 5 minutes. This is very useful while doing quests in Zangarmarsh. So whenever you happen to see a nearby neutral Spore Bat, kill it and get the buff, then resume killing whatever you need for your quests. Also, by killing these mobs, they sometimes drop Fertile Spores for Sporeggar reputation, as well as Strange Spores for a cooking recipe for pet snacks.
