The Hyborian Backpackers guide: Conall's Valley

So you want to get the most out of your trip to Conall's Valley? You've come to the right place. Before we take a look at some of the sights and local characters on offer in this verdant Cimmerian region, here's a quick overview of the zone. The map shown lists Conall's Valley as an appropriate area for levels 20 through 33, but you might find that you have moved on a bit before that stage. The adjacent zones are Conarch Village, the Spider Caverns, and the Field of the Dead.

If you fail to prepare...

Before bursting through the gate to Conall's Valley, take a moment to explore Conarch Village. There are merchants with supplies and equipment, and more importantly, a number of quests. Some of these will lead you out into the valley...

Beat it, drunky

... whereas others will take place in town, like this quest to deal with the village drunk. Don't go too hard on him! When you are confident that you've fully explored Conarch Village, it is now time to venture out into the valley.

But wait, there's more

As soon as you zone into Conall's Valley, you'll find that there are some more quests on offer. Apart from the two quest givers pictured here, another wanders up and down the path ahead. You'll face wolves and yetis when helping these fellows. Further along the main path lies our next destination, which is coincidentally the destination for the wandering Veteran's quest.

The Clan Moragh settlement

The Clan Moragh settlement is your next rest point. The locals here can be traded with, and they will also present you with a large number of new tasks to carry out, should you feel so inclined. The settlement is multi-level, with the Clan bosses residing in the pictured structure...

Clan Moragh settlement

... and the rest of the settlement is down below. This lower section is also where the merchants are located. On occasion, you might run into a big Half-giant out in the next areas of the Valley -- he's extremely tough if you're on your own, so keep your eyes open!

Kern and the Mountain Glade

Our next stop is the Mountain Glade, and a small camp belonging to Kern Wolfeye, presumably named for his rather unsettling ocular condition. Quite a few new quests can be found here, and Kern is a major figure in the lore of this zone.

Chasing waterfalls

If you feel like you've gotten everything out of the first half of Conall's Valley, then you can move on to the remaining areas by following the paths around the waterfall shown here. Feel free to go left or right, but our suggestion is to go left and off the beaten path just a bit...

The Hidden Cavern

... and you might find something interesting. This area, the Hidden Cavern, is often missed. You might notice that it is in an area that the map shows as off the path, although a path does lead right to it. Inside you'll find some Kern devotees with more quests, and one of these will guide you to our next location.

Cascade Falls

Cascade falls is on the opposite side of the waterfalls to the Hidden Cavern, and if you took our suggestion, you'll have an extra quest to turn in here. Ossian and chums will have more for you to do, leading you further through the zone.

The Spider Caverns

By now, you'll probably have some quests leading you to the Spider Caverns. Well, this is them. If after seeing the uninviting entrance you still want to go ahead, you can zone into a private instance and carry out your tasks.

Meet the neighbours

The final stop on our tour of Conall's Valley involved a trip to the not-so-friendly neighbourhood Ymirs. To be honest, if you follow your quests you won't be so neighbourly either, burning their tents, smashing their gates down and murdering their leaders. We asked the big boss to pose for a nice picture for us ...

Jorgrimm

... and here he is! Jorgrimm was kind enough to agree to having his picture published -- we got his approval before promptly dispatching him. He continued his generosity in death ...

Ooh, shiny

We come away with a Bind on Equip "Dark Heart", which looks pretty much exactly like its inventory icon when equipped. It's kind of like walking around with a bowling ball stuck to your hand, which is fairly pimpin'. Thanks, Jorgrimm!

Field of the Dead and beyond

In time, your adventures in Conall's Valley will be behind you. The next zone up is the Field of the Dead, and you can reach it by following the path that runs between these two stones. However, you may want to go somewhere entirely different before venturing that way, and we might be able to help with that. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we continue our tour of Hyboria!
