Demonologist Guide

Introduction
The demonologist is the mightiest of sorcerers, wielding the power of hell and earth and capable of conjuring pillars of flame or titanic storms of electricity. Demonologists concentrate solely on sorcery and the potency of their spells is unmatched. Demonologists wear cloth (and later silk) armour and your only permittable race is Stygian.

Starting Out
Demonologist is one of the most exciting classes to start your Age of Conan Tortage journey with. Until you reach Tortage city, most of your kills will be one-shot using your powerful Fires of Gehenna spell. Just be careful in the city, as you can aggro the guards if fighting nearby one, as Fires of Gehenna has a splash damage effect as well. While it's fun kill enemies in one shot, the power doesn't end once you reach Tortage City. By this time you will also have your first AoE (area of effect) spell, Waves of Flame. Your AoE will allow you to cut down multiple mobs at once, thus being able to kill quicker and more efficiently than some other classes. Those that enjoy Mage classes will have a blast sweeping through to level 20.

Stats
Initially, when your choices are limited, it's advisable that you keep "Concentration" topped up. As soon as you hit Level 5 and begin collecting Skill Points, you will notice that if you do not have points in Concentration you will receive "Spell Interrupted" warnings. To be effective your spells should be interrupted as little as possible. "Climbing" is required to some degree throughout the game. If you wish to climb in Tortage you will need a minimum climb skill of 100. This quickly increases to 200 once you leave Tortage, and further increases with each new tier you achieve.

"Run Speed" is always a favourite, afterall, who wants to run slow?! You must be level 40 to use Mounts, so you will likely want to rack up some points into Run Speed as well. As far as Mages go, you will want "Renew Mana", to keep a fresh pool of the blue stuff ready at all times!

Spells
Spells use "Mana", that would be the blue bar underneath your health. Run out of Mana and it's game over for the Demonologist unless you can manage to melee yourself to the win.

As mentioned previously, Fires of Gehenna is a nice damage spell and it's going to grow with you and take you all the way to Level 80. Shockstrike is another spell that you gain early on the in game, it does high damage with some added splash damage, and will also see you through to 80. Both spells have short reuse timers, so you can easily spam them.

Also take note of your "Storm Chains" spell, a brief root which also does some minor damage. Take advantage of your rooted target by spamming them with nukes.

Spellweaving
Spellweaving is a continuous spellstate that you may enter once you reach Level 50. The spell reads as follows: "Initiates the spellweaving state. The longer in this state, the more powerful the spells become, but with more risk of suffering detrimental effects. Spellweaving drains stamina, then rapidly drains health and can easily kill the reckless."

Four classes in Age of Conan are eligible to use Spellweaving; Demonologist, Necromancer, Tempest of Set and Priest of Mitra.

Pets
At leavel 9 you will receive your first demon, a "Demon Familiar". You will also receive an accompanying spell to change it to the gender of your character. Although the Demon Familiar will fight with you, the damage output of the Demon is next to nothing. It will also not hold aggro and tank for you. The Demons are basically just a buff (in the case of the Demon Familiar, a mana buff). Whether you like pets or not you should keep the Demon around, for it increases your mana pool, and those of your groupmates.

Throughout the game you will receive new Demons, each one with a different ability. They will provide you with mana, health, health regeneration and added damage. Pictured below you will find the Demon Familiar, available to you at Level 9.

Feats
Demon feats fall under three trees; General, Conflagration and Havoc. Each tree will benefit from points, but where you put them is pretty much down to personal preference. The General Mage tree tends to stick with increasing your invulnerabilities, as well as health and mana regeneration. If you're looking to increase your damage output then you will have to invest in another tree. Conflagration focuses greatly on your Fires of Gehenna spell and fire spells in general. Conflagration will also grant you three bonus spells. Havoc focuses more on your Shockstrike line of spells and electrical spells in general. Havoc also offers you a few new spells, and has the added bonus of increasing the effectiveness of your Storm Chains spells.

Gear
Typically Mages will want to select gear +Intelligence (increases your magic damage and mana pool), +Mana Renew, +Max Mana, +Max Health and +Resists.

Solo Play
Queue up your spells when in combat for quicker and more efficient killing. You don't have to wait until one spell is finished casting before casting the next. Be sure to position yourself so that you are facing all mobs when taking on a group. This will ensure that your spell splash damage affects as many of your attackers as possible.

A lot of the Demonologist spells have a very large range, so use that to your advantage. Cast from a distance and keep casting while the mob is heading towards you. Additionally, your "Storm Chains" spell will root your target for a brief time and also inflict a bit of damage on the side.

Make sure that you do as many quests as possible. Even the grey quests will bring in XP, so if you happen by a grey quest goal, make a quick pitstop to cap it off.

Keep your mana and health potions handy for tough encounters, and keep your food and drink topped up for added stats. It doesn't take long to breeze through a bar of mana, so if you are fighting more than one mob, wait until the first is almost dead then instead of wasting a spell on it, switch to the second mob and let the first die from splash damage.

Group Play
Since the Demonologist is one of the highest damage per second classes in Age of Conan, you must be careful not to "over-nuke". NPCs tend to attack the person doing the most damage (or generating the most hate). So if the mob breaks off from the tank to attack you then you could start a chain reaction that will wipe your group. In addition to adding further burden to your group's healer, and annoying your group's tank; if you die then your group may not have enough DPS to finish off the encounter. Hence it is your job to space out the damage you do in a group or raid situation.

When grouping, the Demonologist should stay at the back of the group at all times to avoid AoEs from the target encounter.
