**Single Pet DPS**

*{[ 4 point caster pets ]}*

1x Blood Arcanist 240.77 DPS (319 seconds)
1x Archmagus 239.73 DPS (319 seconds)

*{[ 2 point caster pets ]}*

1x Arcanist 174.12 DPS (325 seconds) only caster in fight, cabal at a minimum
1x Reaper 170.43 DPS (402 seconds) only caster in fight, cabal at a minimum
1x Magus 153.10 DPS (343 seconds) only caster in fight, cabal at a minimum

*{[ 1 point melee pets ]}*

1x Corruptor 67.32 DPS (402 seconds 238 hits)
1x Blighted One 45.90 DPS (402 seconds 277 hits)
1x Life-Stealer 45.43 DPS (402 seconds 288 hits)
1x Mutilator 44.79 DPS (402 seconds 193 hits)
1x Harvester 42.33 DPS (402 seconds 240 hits)
1x Necrotic Bomb 40.78 DPS (402 seconds 197 hits)

all melee pets had 5x Bone Horde going because they were tested in the same fight, because they all had the same buff I find the results to still be accurate.

Next I did some group dps runs to see how much an entire group of one kind of pets DPS went up due to a specific ability they have.

*{[ Multi Pet DPS ]}*

*{[ Full group of Arcanists ]}*

5x Arcanist 900.52 DPS (284 seconds)
180.10 DPS Each
(Arcanists Knowledge x 10 and Cabal x 5)
5 DPS each gained from Arcanists Knowledge and Cabal in a full group

*{[ Full group of Mutilators ]}*

11x Mutilator 529.24 DPS (396 seconds)
48.11 DPS Each
(10 x Mutilation and 5 x Bone Horde)
4 DPS each gained from Mutilation

*{[ Group of Mutilators and Corruptors ]}*

6x Corruptor 5x Mutilator Total 687.04 DPS (320 Seconds)
6x Corruptor 426.67 DPS
5x Mutilator 260.37 DPS
62.45 DPS Each *Averaged*
(10 x Mutilation and 5 x Bone Horde)
I did this one to see if having just enough Mutilators to sustain Mutilation x10 mixed with higher dps corruptors would make the group do more dps than a full group of Corruptors. Results show Mutilation did not make up the difference in lost DPS when compared to a full group of Corruptors. I may at a later time try this with life-stealers instead of corruptors to see if th speed difference makes up the lost dps.

Points of interest and clearing up the fog.

On single target mobs our 4 point pets are worthless, but we all knew that already. Any combination of two 2 point pets will do far more single target damage vs a 4 point pet. Any time a 4 point pet is hitting more than one target it's dps passes two of the 2 point pets and it once again becomes a useful pet.

Arcanists are our highest base damage pet. This is not to say that pulling out only Arcanists will yield you the most damage, because it won't always. Many other classes have abilities that will boost the melee damage output of two 1 point melee pets to a level that is even higher than that of a single 2 point Arcanist. When you have no access to any of these buffs and melee damage increasing abilities, like when soloing, Arcanists can be a good choice to fall back on if all you are looking for is pure dps and you aren't worried about heals from your life-stealers like most of us have become used to using when soloing. When you're alone or without access to additional melee damage buffs though, they are your highest single target dps pet period.

Life-stealers are the fastest attacking pet on the market. This is why you will see so many people using them in certain group setups even when their healing is not needed. Certain group buffs and npc debuffs can cause a chance for extra damage on each hit, so they tend to take advantage of these things more often than the other pets which can cause their damage output to go way up above their base dps. In longer fights a group of life-stealers can do more damage than a group of Corruptors, but in shorter fights they won't. Don't overlook the fact that the fight needs to be drawn out for your life-stealers to out damage Corruptors using this method. If your fights are short and you don't need the healing then you may be better off with Corruptors or even Arcanists for dps.

Mutilators are not very useful. Even with their Mutilation x10 effect they are not really on par with the other pets. Mutilation x10 gives a 5% proc rate that hits for 134-298 dmg. It's really not all that impressive, or all that useful when you consider the amount of damage you give up to sustain the debuff on your target. You could possibly break even on dps using Mutilators if you were in a raid with multiple other necros who are all running full groups of melee pets, but other than that I see no situation where there will be enough people attacking a single mob to make the proc go off often enough to merit giving up raw dps in exchange for their x10 debuff.

I've played both Reanimation and Nightfall specs in a raiding guild and have equal experience raiding as both. Which spec does higher damage is situational. Which one is more useful and needed is also situational. Which one has a higher survivability rate, you guessed it, also situational and weighs heavily on your skill as a player, and your ability to understand and control your agro.

Once you've taken the time to look over and compare all the things I've layed out, and taken in to consideration all the different situational uses of pets, I think you'll find yourselves making some adjustments on how your use your pets, and may even find yourselves swapping pet types out more often than before. I hope this post was educational as well as informational, and I hope it can benefit everyone here who plays or plans on playing in the reanimation tree.
