Barbarian Guide
By -Pagan-
Archetype: Rogue
Permitted Races: Aquilonian, Cimmerian
Weapons: One-handed blunt, one-handed edged, Two-handed Blunt, Two-Handed Edged, Bow and Crossbow, Thrown Weapons, and Dual-Wield ability
Armor: Cloth armor, Light armor
Pros (Strengths)
The Barbarian Class is an interesting hybrid of fighter and stealther. The Barbarian is a good class for those that wish to solo, is a great asset to any group, and shines in PvP. Through a combination of knockback maneuvers and offensive attacks, the Barbarian is able to quickly deal high amounts of damage and overwhelm their opponents early on to tip the battle in their favor. The ability to use stealth makes the Barbarian Class even more interesting and fun to play. The Barbarian is second only to the Assassin when it comes to stealth. The ability to duel wield means massive damage output.
Cons (Weaknesses)
Light armor means mediocre defense. If the fight lingers on too long, the advantage the Barbarian might initially start with may quickly disappear. Armor limitations may also mean the Barbarian is more of a support class than a main tank when grouped.
The Class Role
Stealth gives the Barbarian the ability to ambush. Use stealth to your advantage to protect your party, as well as when you solo. Your creed is to take out your opponent as fast as possible. The Barbarian deals in raw damage, so play the class that way. Someone on the forums likened the Barbarian to a 'ninja with a sledge hammer'. That about sums it up.
Solo Tips
Stealth stealth stealth! Use your stuns (Stunning Punch) and knockbacks wisely and you can best most classes in hand to hand melee.
Group Tips
The Barbarian's role in a group is DPS. You are a support class, not a main tank. Have the higher armored classes keep the attention on them, while you dole out massive amounts of damage from the shadows.
PvP Tips
Be careful when picking a fight with a Guardian! Guardians are your biggest threat in PvP. Cyclone of Steel one shots may give you a God Complex. Time your attack from the sides or back, since in this case this will strike an unshielded area and do massive damage. Ambush ambush ambush! Stealth is a great tool to gain the upper hand early on. Time your stuns and knockbacks wisely. Use your long cooldown stuns in the beginning, and by the time they refresh you can use them to finish off your opponents. Berzerker Feat Tree may be more beneficial than Reaver.
Special Abilities
- 3 stuns and 2 knockback Abilities give you the tools to succeed in almost any combat situation
- Duel wield: Use a blunt weapon in one hand, and edged in the other
- Stealth ability second only to the lighter armored Assassin Class.
Feats
Berserker Tree: For PvP, Berzerker seems to be slightly favored over the Reaver path. Enhancements are split between increasing damage dealt, and improving Stun and Knockback skills. Paralysis feat is similar to 'rooting' target and comes in handy.
Reaver Tree: Focus on increasing damage output. Maxing out Feat points in Reaver grants damage bonuses to everyone in your party.
Skill Points
If you are going to play your Barbarian as a pseudo Fighter/Stealther, max out your Hiding Skill and throw some points in Perception. You know you are not the only one out there skulking around in the shadows! Spending points in Bandaging will also help you recover faster between battles.
